Leaded bronze is a type of bronze alloy that contains a small percentage of lead as an alloying element. The addition of lead to bronze can enhance certain properties, and it is known for its excellent machinability, wear resistance, good load carrying capacity and thermal conductivity and is commonly used in the manufacture of bushes, bearings, and wear plates.
The lead content in leaded bronze is typically in the range of 1% to 15%, and it is generally regarded as easier to cut, shape, and form into various components, which is particularly valuable in manufacturing processes where intricate parts need to be produced. The lead particles on the alloy's surface can also reduce friction and wear, making leaded bronze suitable for applications where sliding or rotating components are involved.
